As it may well be understood from the name of this activity, it’s not a “Reading-Writing Study” but a “Preparation for Reading and Writing.” It’s important to list these studies according to their levels ranging from simplicity to complexity. The students start to prepare themselves for Reading and Writing studies by moving their fingers over their bodies, through air and on different surfaces so as to form different shapes. An opportunity is given to the students to take part in activities whereby they develop concepts, establish links with subjects, distinguish between recognition and matching, pieces-whole, event reordering and classification. For example, during lessons conducted on keywords of the week, students visualize the words by placing them on large carton papers and use them in all the weekly activities by sticking them on the word tree. Moreover, as a result of the implemented ORT programme, the new word and sentence structures in different phases are introduced to students through different techniques (talking stories). Circular drawing and painting techniques from the wrists are introduced to the students for an easy transition to hand-writing in the first grades.
